I had to read this book for school but I felt obliged to tell others what I thought about it.

It has been a long time since a book has made me angry. But this novel, with its woodlands guide children, majestic bloodhounds, and parents who have aparently spent their lives sealed in a bubble, accomplished that. It's painful to read. From the very first chapter the new age BS starts in and it only gets worse. By the end I had to fight the urge to light the book on fire and throw it at a Greenpeace activist. I wouldn't mind so much if the book was well written. But the plot is simplistic, the climax is almost non-existant. I know this is considered a young adult novel but we can give kids some credit, can't we?

I'm not certain who would enjoy this book. Maybe some Environmental Liberation Front wack job. They could read it to their kids before they go burn a ski resort.
