Even though this book meets my criteria for having `fluff', this is still one great introduction book to NLP. The language is down to earth, the exercises are well explained and the authors give a lot of thoughtful advice to beginners.

I do like the author and have heard him on tape and CD before, but this CD set was originally a tape set (we repeatedly hear "on this tape" spoken), and should have been re-done instead of edited.
Some (only some) of the basics of NLP are included here, and if you've ever opened a book or heard a tape about NLP, you probably already know all that's offered on this CD. Three of us here listened to "NLP," and we all found the constant reference to "tapes" annoying, along with the voices of two people who do a lot of speaking on the second CD. They both sound like they're trying to do cartoon voices, and my husband couldn't stop laughing. Yes, the voices are that distracting. The author co-wrote a better introduction to NLP years ago, called "Success Mastery With NLP." It's usually available used on tape. Having used NLP since 1976, I really do recommend it as a more useful introduction to the subject. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-21 00:23:47 EST)

This book is great in that it not only explains some of the basics of NLP but it also includes 43 different exercises to do while you are reading the book. Most of these exercises can be done quickly and have been, for me, generally quite effective. These exercises are not easy to find online, so it's nice to have them compiled in one place here. For the price of a paperback it's hardly a question as to whether or not you should buy this book, especially if NLP is something that interests you.

This is a great book on how to improve your performance in any area of your life. I've only just started applying some of the ideas and already I notice that I am able to focus better when I study and dragging myself out of bed in the morning is not as difficult as it once was.

I am giving this book two stars- but I begrudge it the second one. It has to be two because it DOES contain the information I bought it for. But I wish I could in good conscience give it one single star- or fewer- because on nearly every page, there's something that makes me want to reach through the book and slap the writers.
I don't enjoy books that effuse with frothy enthusiasm so trillingly that it undercuts the information it's supposed to deliver. And I don't enjoy books where the authors seem to be addressing me and my curiosity about the topic in a sugary voice as if I am a Kindergartner. So I am not enjoying this book. At all. I wish that before I'd purchased this book I'd seen the dedication page. It reads: "Dedicated to the joyful heart and soaring spirit of every child reaching for a greater world, especially in yourself." Now, friends- I sincerely hope your heart is joyful and that your spirit soars. But that sugary prose in the dedication would have tipped me off about what was ahead- and I'd have run for the hills. To get to the information, you have to deal with the authors achingly precious hopes for this book to change your life. Ever have a cappucino that was all foam with only a little sip of coffee at the bottom of the cup? Remember how you raised the paper cup to your lips and there wasn't anything to swig? Remember the sense that you'd just been ripped off? Yeah. It's a lot like that. If you like non-fiction delivered to you like a bed-time story, maybe you'll like this book. But if not-- don't buy this book. Run very fast to the next selection. If I can stop even one person from buying this book, it was worth my time to write this review. I like this book. It's easier to follow than my first venture into NLP, which was Anthony Robbins's 'Ultimate Power.' It's not that UP is a bad book--it's very inspirational to be honest--but I think what Robbbins is giving you in UP is how NLP worked for him.
This book is structured better, offers many more exercises, and generally is a more enjoyable read (the more you reflect on your behavioral patterns, the more you understand yourself, and the more you appreciate this book). Also, it doesn't offer the absurd advice on nutrition that Robbins's book does. I highly recommend this book to anyone who thinks NLP might be for them. Unlike some books and cd's about NLP, this cd does not promote it as some kind of magical cure all. NLP is presented for what it is, a useful and practical means of changing the way we think and associate things in our brains. Its our internal feedback and associations that feeds our fears and limits our thinking. NLP, is one way of overwriting the circuits in our brains with new and more helpful circuits. This is a no Bull, practical program.

The book is a good introduction to NLP. The part about NLP beliefs is fantastic. On the other hand, it seems the authors lost a little focus of the audience they were writting to and the words sometimes do not fit in what they say at the begining. There are lots and lots of exercises, dozens of history about successfull people, but the way they move the reader towards the exercises and histories is OK, but I wish they had less material and had worked more on rapport with the reader. I guess they put too much material and make the book difficult to follow in one side. On the other side, they have experience and they know a lot. They just should be more gentle with readers (work more in deepness than in material that is outside of the reader world). After all, I believe that's what NLP is about. How about using metaphors? In Summary, good work and should improve next time. Hope they can can do it.

The CD is very good. I found the subject matter very interesting. I tried it and I actually changed some of the old negative memories and thoughts in a very short period of time. I just wish the the people presenting the material we a little more enthusiastic.

As a life coach and NLPMP, this is one of the most comprehensive books about NLP that I have read. Not only does it lead you through what NLP is, it also guides you through some exercises that can abseloutly change your mind about what is important to you, what your vision is, and what you want to pursue in life. In short, this book may not change your life, it will change your life. How much will be up to you.
The authors have a great way with words and explain things in a very easy way, anyone should be able to learn something from this book and get an understanding of NLP. If you are just being introduced to NLP this book will jump you further into what it can do. If you have some experience with NLP this book will really get you going and reviewing the things you have already learned. Overall a great read and one of the top book on the subject of NLP. The first part of the book is amazing, the part where it explains how nlp started and gives a few examples of how the brain works. But it becomes too goal oriented, like what do you want to do with your life? This part bothered me because I didn't want to find my meaning on earth, I just wanted to develop tools for my every day life.
It's just the way the subjects were brought that bugged me but there are good topics covered in that book and I recommend it. Improvin'always (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-03-04 03:54:54 EST)

This book is simple and user friendly for the lay person who hasn't the time or money to do NLP certification workshops. It gives you all of the classic techniques that they teach you in workshops such as the 'swish technique', running the backward movie and dissociation, and if you keep a journal and practice the exercises in each chapter, they build on one another to take you from figuring out your purpose in life to achieving peak performance.
In the back, you put all of the exercises into practice with a 21 day Unlimited Achievement Program. It's simple. I like it. Buy a blank journal and start working on your life's mission. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-01-21 00:44:57 EST)

I bought this book thinking that there was some secret "neural" or "linguistic" programming (like a certain set of instructions) I could follow to gain some sort of advantage in life, and what I got was just a lot of the same self-help stuff that seems to have been already covered by many others. The "technology" is really just learning how to think of things differently; particularly negative things that drag you down.
There are also some ideas related to communications and establishing repoir with others that could come in handy. That said, precious little in this book struck me as being "new". And to add bewilderment to my dissappointment there were also two particularly logic defying ideas that form the foundation of this "technology". First, "Every behavior is useful in some context". Hmmm, this was written in 1994. Did having a bunch of fanatics fly airliners into the World Trade Center maybe cause this presupposition to come into question? Second, "If one person can do something, anyone can learn to do it." That's right. One person figured out that mass equals energy times the speed of light squared, and so anyone could learn to figure out the profound principles that govern our universe. If one person can design a microprocessor chip, anyone can learn to. If one person can compose a recording like "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts" or "Pet Sounds", then anyone can learn to. If one person can carve a statue of David out of marble (who did that again?), anyone can learn to! I could be a nuclear physicist, a computer engineering genious, a classical music composer, an opera star, a nobel prize winning economist --you name it -- simply because someone else did! Brilliant. Well, I gotta cut this short because today I'm writing a bestselling novel, recording the next great love song, and designing an ion-propulsion engine for space travel. After all, one person has done those things. I can learn to do them too. Seriously, I gave this book two stars instead of one because if the reader has geniunely never been introduced to some of the thought pattern changing techniques in this book, then he or she could actually benefit from reading it. I could probably stand a little more "inner alignment" myself. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-01-21 00:44:57 EST)

NLP is the study of excellence and the technology of achievement and success. NLP is a wonderful model to enhance communication, personal change and personal development. The way you think affects the internal and external language and the actions you take. This in turn affects the way you behave and the reactions you get. I have used NLP techniques while training meirc participants on all subjects in dubai seminars and it is certainly as defined "The difference that makes the difference". Learn it, use it and develop it, the results keep getting better and better.

Neuro Semantics has always been based on what WORKS - as established by timeless trial and error - rather than chasing the latest theory. That is what I liked about this book. It distilled the applications away from the fluff and theory. I've learned in 3 hours of reading enough methodology to give me the edge in the collective bargaining agreements I frequently facilitate.

I was totally new to this subject and found the CD to be a great way to learn and try the different proposed techniques. They have in deed helped me and I use them almost everyday. NLP is a powerful way to associate/focus on what I want and disassociate/liberate from what I don't want. I really like it.

I listened to the CD over two days and I was able to stop one behavior completely after listening to the first side with just one technique. Since that time this behavior has never had power over me. My only regret is that the store didn't carry the book as I've read that it has 43 exercises. The CD has 6 exercises all of which are life-changing. I highly recommend this CD and I can't wait to get the entire book.

This is the 2nd NLP series I have purchased. NLP is just a series of visualization exercises. What if you can't visualize? Also, how do you know this is working? Yes, if you are scared of heights, you know NLP has worked for you, but what if your fear is intangible, how exactly do you know if NLP works. Unless I am missing something here, I am starting to think that NLP is over-hyped. Yes, you can trick yourself into believing anything, but when push comes to shove, you need to know if you no longer have a specific fear and I think these tapes make it very hard for you to figure this out. The author only has a few exercises yet the tapes are 2 hours long---why? Just tell us what will help us and move on. Anyway, since I can't tell if the exercises work or not, I can't offer a concrete opinion on the book/tape.

I can't claim to know much about NLP, but I didn't learn much about it from this CD. The premise is that some geniuses distilled the principles and techniques of successful living through observations they made of some other geniuses. These secrets to life have been magically transformed into easy mind games that this CD teaches you how to play when confronted with any challenge. For me there just wasn't enough substance or critical thought put into the presentation to buy into it. Also, the narrators' tone reminded me of a parent talking to a 3 year old, or an owner talking to a dog. I guess if you find most written and spoken publications challenging to understand, then this one will be good for you.
For those who value logic and rationality in their lives, this CD will leave you unsatisfied. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-05-09 21:51:07 EST)

The concept is amazingly simple -- visualize things according to the way you want to rank them in your mind, and you can actually change your perception of things. "Neurolinguistic Programming," as a term, is a catch-phrase, like "laser clear." There is no computer involved, but the theme and ideas do give the listener a more positive way of looking at everything, and a way of distancing from the bad news.
I listened to both CD's more than twice each, and they do run 2 hours. Of course, I listened to them where we listen to anything CD or tape -- in the van. It was understandable, clear English, and well-explained concepts. For instance, you can think up a very negative experience in your life, one that really threatens you and holds you back today. Any of us can think one of these up. We all have these, somewhere back. Most likely, it's in full color. What the narrators urge is that you try imagining that experience in dull black and white, and picture it smaller than it usually looms. See it as though from the outside. Basically, you're putting it in it's place, and making it less critical to your life view, so you can move past the negative. The narrators also urge imagining those really good, positive experiences in full living color. Some people underemphasize their positive experiences and overemphasize their negative experiences. Forget this! Do the opposite, partly by putting the bad in dull black and white, and the really good in full color on a larger screen. No doubt the above is far more simplistic than the 2 hours of narration make it. The narration, however, is close to the edge of lackluster, almost to the point of falling off. It a listener actually did what the narrators suggest -- listen to it at home, instead of while doing something else, like driving -- it would be sheer drudgery. There are qualities that are hard to duplicate in a studio, without an audience. Ask any voiceover speaker who does radio commercials and short TV spots. I've heard it in studio-edited tape after tape. CD's are not excluded from this. I would suggest that narrators bring about 20 family members and friends to any studio where they plan to narrate something like this, so there will be a live audience that makes the speaking seem more natural, more lively, and less labored. All that aside, while it is not exactly Tony Robbins LIVE, "NLP -- The New Technology of Achievement" is a good listen-to while driving, far superior to most radio stations and worth the very reasonable price tag. NLP Comprehensive has done it! This is definitely the best book on NLP. Written by the trainers from NLP Comprehensive and edited by Andreas and Faulkner, if you're going to buy only one NLP book, look no further.
The book starts off with introduction to NLP, and quickly goes into chapters each filled with power pack NLP techniques ready to be used for everyday applications. In the last chapter is the Unlimited Achievement 21 Day Program. This book explains and then goes on to show you how to do change your life with NLP. This is unlike other self help book that try "pumping" you up to feel good, without concrete real substance. No fluff, no gimmicks, no pep talk,... just real power pack information that can be used immediately to change your life. If you want to change your life, look no further. Buy this book now, and start changing your life today! (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-05-09 21:51:10 EST)

This program by NLP Comprehensive is one of the very best programs on how to use NLP effectively and achieve rapid change.
I ordered this first as an audio tape program from Nightingale-Conant and then bought the print version. Each tape/chapter is like having your own individual coach and and builds on the previous information. My daughter used one of the techniques to improve her ability in the classroom and as a cheerleader. My son was struggling to make the footbal team until he used these methods. My wife and I have used them in our professions and they have made a significant difference. I also recommend the tape program NLP Mastery by Charles Faulkner which is also available here at Amazon. Many NLP books and tapes are hard to follow. Faulkner et all make learning these techniques easy for anybody even high school cheerleaders and football players. I bought this book wanting an introduction to NLP and I received more than I asked for. Not only is it an excellent introduction to the history and concepts of NLP, but it is filled with excercises. You can get as hands-on as you want to with this book, choosing only to read it or to do the excercises once or many times. In fact, for true NLPers I'm sure these excercises become second nature. Also, I feel that the authors have done a lot of experimenting with each technique and have done a good job diluting what works. What is refreshing to me is that some religions use some of these techniques and NLP separates their techniques from religion. In fact, you can go ahead and apply it to whatever you're doing. This book has inspired me to make some changes in my life and has gotten me interested again in things that had become dormant.

This book is a great introduction to the world of Neuro Linguistic Programming, or NLP. It not only includes a primer to bring you up to speed on what NLP is, but explains some of the more advanced techniques and methods of programming. About the only downside of this book is the fact that exercises appear in the middle of most chapters, which tends to cut into the "flow" of reading. Still, the exercises appear in a quite logical sequence, and you get used to it after the first few chapters.
Despite its choppy presentation, the book is extremely readable, entertaining and leaves one with a strong understanding of the fundamentls of NLP itself. For those of you who are new to NLP, this is definitely the first book that I would read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-05-09 21:51:10 EST)

A very well-done introductory book that really helps you understand that the map is not the territory, but rather a representation of the territory. Our words are the maps, but too often we think they are the territory. This realization can change the way you think so profoundly, you might look at the world and your life in an entirely new way. As one person said, "It's about ferocious living and curiousity."
Great exercises throughout the book demonstrate and ingrain the concepts into your mind that VERY QUICKLY change you internally. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-05-09 21:51:10 EST)

This is one of THE most powerful and effective NLP books to date. It teaches some theory, BUT NLP isn't abot theory, it's about what works - for YOU, as an individual.
A key tenet ("presupposition") of NLP is that *nothing* works for *everybody*, and *nothing* works for *anybody* *all* of the time. You have to try things out until you find the exercises and methods that work "for you". And even then you may find that they work better some days than others. After reading quite a few books on NLP, I'd say that this is the nearest thing you'll find to the essence of NLP short of going on a "top notch" training course. Read the book, and DO do the exercises, but only when you're ready to progress your life to a whole new level. For those who are ready for something better - highly recommended. If, on the other hand, you're really not sure if you're ready to step out of your "comfort zone", then stay clear of this book. Once you've read it, you'll never be able to put things back the way they were. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-05-09 21:51:10 EST)

This book has some valuable sections burried in a morass of New Age hype and cheerleading. I think it was the text for a series of tapes published by Conant. There is a lot of fluff, and the whole book probably could have been condensed into about 100 pages. Some of the examples are a bit far fetched. Why would I want to model myself on someone who spurns human society and lives to be a dog sled racer in Alaska? Oh, I guess she was following her bliss and we all should do that to fully realize ourselves and reach our highest potential. Blah, blah, blah, etc.!

Although I don't like reading books with many exercises, this book seemed to be a different case. It is a great intro to NLP and shows the reader the basic NLP techniques (mirroring, swish pattern, etc). I really liked the swish pattern because it worked in matter of minutes although it didn't last permanently. I would advise readers who want to make a shift in their lives to read this book. If you have been reading many self help books for awhile, pick this one because its techniques take visuzling to a next level and you will see greater results in a shorter period of time. It did for me and I'm confident it will do for you too.

NLP is the most incredible breakthrough in psychology since Freud's discoveries. This book allows you to delve deep into the world of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) in a manner that is concise and understanding. It allows you to follow 43 different visualizations to implement the power of NLP. Imagine that your mind is a computer and NLP is software. This software will upgrade your mind to possibilities that are limitless. You can cure phobias, increase confidence, forget past negative experiences, bring back positive experiences into the now moment, and so on. This is the book to buy for NLP. It is priceless. Now buy it to change your life! Sincerely, Jason

This is better writing. This is absolutely a FANTASTIC book that truly represents the best thinking in NLP. I am an admirer of Tony also. He takes a different tack to some extent (but his message is similar) and his audio tapes are superb. He is so charismatic as to astound, but I just can't get through his written message. This is easier to read and much more intellectual. I recommend both and encourage you to get this book today.

Of the 20 or so NLP books I've read, this is the clearest that actually takes you through specific steps that get results. If you want more theory, I recommend "Introducing NLP" by O'Connor and Seymour. But if you want experience, this is it.

This is a very good intro and manual to learning NLP and applying it in your life. There are lots of step-by-step strategies and guides. Eg, are how to motivate yourself (like getting up in the morning or doing your tax early), how to gain self- appreciation and esteem, how to anchor states, and many many more. Easy to understand WITHOUT those technical jargons in many NLP books that often confuse beginners.

I am a Tony Robbins fan and in his works he mentions NLP. I reviewed these tapes as part of a trial offer and then bought them. This set of cassettes really helped me out when I needed it most. All of the suggestions are easy to understand and useful. I cannot think of anyone who wouldn't benefit from listening and implementing this material.
