This book does a great job of helping you understand how networking works, but literally does not cover half of what's on the new Net+ 2007 exam. Read this book if you need to learn or review the basics, then get ANY book that came out in or after 2007.

This product is well worth the money and will definitely prepare you for certification testing. Why would you ever think of paying full price at a regular bookstore or training facility. The book also includes a cd for test exams. Great buy!

I had bought this item with a bad CD I am really impressed with the way the publisher and Michael Meyers daughter really put out the effort to make it right which they did. The book itself is really informative and down to earth. Laura

This is a well written book, however in future editions the paper used must of better quality because it is very difficult to read under certain light conditions.

I am thoroughly impressed with this book. The author uses very simple language and humor to describe material that could be other wise be construed as dry, convoluted, and tedious to learn. He mixes real world examples to describe how the OSI Model works. He describes subnetting in the simplest way. He uses examples from his own life to describe how the osi model layer relates to each protocol within those layers. Overall, a must read for someone wanting to obtain knowledge for no reason, or to obtain their network + certification.

I will agree with the other reviews I have read. The book was a good and I enjoyed reading this like other Mike Myer's books but I took the exam today and BARELY passed with a 590. I would recommend reading this book if you have the time, coupled with more recent materials. I used this book with a question and answer study guide. If not for the 10 practice exams from Totalsem.com which came with the voucher I would definately have failed. But even these practice exams will not prepare you for the exam.

Mike Myers is at it again! This book contains many tables and diagrams which clearly explain the basics of networking for beginners. The Network+ certification also fulfills DOD's 8570.01M AIT Level 1 information assurance training requirements for IA personnel employed by the Department of Defense. My next certification will be Security+ (IAT Level II) and I will definitely use the All-in-One Guide.

Although this book contains a wealth of information, it lacks subject matter pertinent to the CompTIA Network+ 2007 exam. I passed the exam June 21, 2007. The knowledge I gleaned from this book was applicable to the exam 20% of the time at best. I can only recommend this book as a starting point for those with no networking knowledge whatsoever. Do not rely soley on it to pass the 2007 exam.

This book provides all the necessary information for someone who has no experience in this particular field and also utilizes a quick path format for those who are fairly knowledgable. Whether the book was purchased for a quick reference (brush up) or to remove the networking blind-fold, this book is a good buy.

I am reading this book to get certified, and it is not a very good book at all. It is too thick (not in size) to read and difficult to comprehend based on the language. I do not recommend this book.

Excellent service received from Amazon as usual.
Note one thing please: if the USPS tracking code said that it was delivered on xx date, give it one or two more days to actually receive it, since it's not that reliable due to reasons e.g. weekends etc. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-04-12 09:33:23 EST)

I bought this book based on the recommendations of recent reviewers. Unfortunately, the contents of this book are outdated. There is very little information on MAC OS X or UNIX in this book. I took the Network + Exam on March 1, 2007 and barely passed with a score of 662. During the exam, I answered approximately 20 questions pertaining to the interconnectivity of OS X and UNIX to other operating systems. This book comes with a 4 practice exams, but these questions are nothing like the questions on the actual exam. I do not recommend this book as a study guide for the Network + Exam.

This is my first book by Mike Meyers, and probably my last. He has an annoying sense of humor, there are numerous spelling and grammar errors, which are annoying. He tends to spend pages explaining simple things, while leaving you to search on the internet to find explanations on other topics, only to find one sentence could have cleared the matter up. The included practice exam is nice, however it had a question on it he didn't cover (minor - I was able to figure it out, but he MADE the practice exam software). However, all this wasn't enough to make me throw it away. The pictures and illustrations are nice and well done, and he does give a lot of history. On the second, note-taking read, I just read past his attempts at humor. The fellow did say in the book it took him two weeks to figure out how to convert binary when he first learned it. That is crazy, but explains why I went to the internet to learn about the topic (subnetting) that binary played a role in. But I, hey, it's a book about networking, I didn't expect much....

Very good flow to the information as you read along. The concepts are very precise and to the point, giving the history (of the technologies spoken of herein) whenever possible, making understanding their origins very clear.
I would recommend this book to the person that is looking to start on the ground running with real terminologies and concepts commonly referenced in the industry. Even though some of the technology spoken of is no longer in production, it is good to know that it once existed and, given continuing changes/updates to industry standards, new technologies have thrived from their humble beginnings (a full 10Mbps backbone supporting the entire internet - Wow!). Best Regards, K! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-01-10 06:55:32 EST)

This book will keep your eyes focused on the goal of getting your Network+ certification! Mike Myers writes in a way everyone can understand, and has many examples and pictures. The book does look big, and it is. Just remember that all the pictures take up about half the book (good thing to, some of it would be hard to understand if they weren't in there!). Go and get this book!

I used this book as my main study guide for the Network+ exam, along with his Network+ Passport. Mike says that you will pass the exam, not that you will score a 900 on it, and I think this is probably accurate. I studied this book, taking notes and reviewing as well as using the practice exams. I also bought my test voucher from Mike's company which gave me additional practice exams. I passed with a decent score (763)and most of the material I saw on the test was in the All In One book.
Ok, having said that, I think it would be a good idea to use either his Network+ Passport, or the Sybex Network+ book ( which I haven't seen but gets good review as well ) because there are some topics that are skipped over very lightly in the All In One that are covered in more detail in the other books. The Network+ Passport is NOT comprehensive enough to get you a pass on it's own though, at least not based on the questions I had to answer. If you want to score in the 800's then I think the All In One, coupled with the Sybex book would do it but since the questions are drawn from a pool, if you happen to be unlucky you could skill end up in the 700's. i have my A+ cert but i did not have any experience with networking prior to reading this book. i passed with a 715, so for newbies like me, it can be done.
the 3rd edition appears to have been released in 2004, with CompTIA updating the Network+ objectives in 2005. to adjust for this, just take lots of practice exams (plenty of free ones out there on the web--3 or 4 sites should do). also, download and print the exam objectives from CompTIA and go over them after reading the book. these two stategies will show you where the book is lacking (someone else mentioned IPSec, L2TP, and Kerberos--he's right). overall, this book was a pretty good read, with lots of geek humor. there were a few bumps that needed clarification from another source (wikipedia is great), but otherwise enjoyable. (certainly better than any engineering textbook i've ever read!) for the naysayers, no single text is gonna cover it all, but this book is an excellent place to start. good job, Mike. this is a good book.
the main con for this book is that it lacks detailed security protocal function. make sure you read on ipsec, l2 and kerberos before you go take the exam, if you want to get a high score. i used this book and examcram2's practice exam and those questions are too easy. i passed but with only a decent score. Something seems to have happened in this one. The material is just not as thorough and importance is not as emphasized as in Meyer's A+ study guide. I used this to help me pass the Network+ exam, in conjuction with the Network+ Passport. That tiny, itty bitty book, had more relevant information and test alerts, than this entire brick of a book. If you use them in conjunction, you will pass the exam.
Just be aware that the Macintosh operating system and common MAC utilities are not really covered in depth by this book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 06:14:20 EST)

Mike writes "discussionally" (that's my term Mike, you can't have it). It's like he's sitting across the table from you during dinner, trust me, I've been there with Mike. His writing style makes it easy to read, learn and retain the information. In fairness, I took my Network+ exam just to see what it was like after more than a decade in the industry, but I enjoyed reading Mike's book and learning things I didn't know while seeing old knowledge in a new light.
If you don't read this book, you won't know everything you need to know to pass the Network+ exam. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 06:14:20 EST)

I really enjoyed Mike's A+ guide, which was the reason that I picked up his Network+ guide as well. This was the only book that I used in studying for my Network+ exam, and it turned out to be all that I needed. Mike has a good writing style that helps to convey technical concepts using analogies of everyday concepts. All of the topics that CompTIA specifies for the test are covered. Mike sometimes explains beyond what you need to know, but is usually good about letting you know what is needed for the test and what is extra.
In addition to his book, I also purchased my exam voucher through his company, which came with additional practice tests than what is contained on the book's CD. The tests were decent, but asked the questions a bit differently than the actual test does. As a result, I did feel at times that I was taking shots in the dark during the actual exam. In the end, the book and test questions did the trick, as I passed the exam with an 800 score (need 554 on a 100-900 score range to pass). Though I haven't read other Network+ books, I have no problem recommending this book as your primary study source. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 06:14:19 EST)

This is a good book. If you are a beginner to networking this is a great place to start. I disagree that you can pass the Net+ exam with this book only though.
I did not buy the extra exam questions that the author sells. Maybe with those and this book you could pass the exam. I used this book and Exam Cram to pass my Net + exam. I would suggest using this book, exam cram, and self test to make sure you are ready and know the material. In this book the self test questions were too easy. They were not even close to what I seen on the exam. Combine this book with other resources and you will be happy. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 06:14:19 EST)

This was the first IT book that I truly enjoyed reading. First off, this book IS for the current exam (ignore previous posting). Mike Meyers has an outstanding writing style. If you need to study networking for the Network+ cert, and/or want to learn to build a network from scratch, this book is a must have!! Outstanding work, this book belongs in a gallery.

Mike Meyers once again has come out with a comprehensive certification book and CD ROM to help Techs get through the Network Plus Exam. Mr.Meyers was able to come out with a book on time for the Beta Exam release. There is a technique to using the authors books, and while he does suggest a technique in the beginning, I would suggest giving his book a read through two to three times not challenging yourself until the final reading. This book makes an excellent precursor to Passport or Exam Cram.

He can write this book for it, as he is a member of CompTIA he gets information about its objectives before the exam so he CAN have a book for it. I have this book in my possesion and I assure you it is NOT rushed in any way. And useless? How can you possibly say that?
Having asked Mike myself (email) he was almost done with an updated version when the new test was annouced, so very little had to be added to cover the new objectives. Please, read the book before making such bold accusations that it is worthless. I find it very informative and useful. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 06:14:20 EST)

How in the heck can Meyer's claim this book is for the new exam when the new exam is not even out yet, and really not even on the horizon? CompTIA just came out with the beta exam in Nov., yet this book was released in Oct?
Save yourself a major headache and avoid this obviously rushed to market, useless book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 06:14:20 EST)
