To me it's a great reference for someone seeking or already has a CCNA certification. There has several times in this first week I had found uses for it.

This product only has one word to describe itself, "EXCELLENT". If you really want to have a bonifide supplemental reading to what ever Cisco Training your pursuing...this will definitely suffice all of your ambitions and endeavors. Not only does the author make the material legible and understandable, he simplifies it by giving real world application (which is the best type of training in my eye).

This is certainly a good value. Explicit commands that are used for basic configurations. Worth the investment if you don't normally use these commands every day, or already have them memorized.

I rate this book with a zero (amazon requires me to supply at least one star, this is amazon's fault) hoping that the "usual" mistake will never appear again in Cisco Press books. I have sent e-mail about this to Cisco Press many years ago. Still, authors do not seem to get it. Perhaps a zero rating might help.
The book has just been delivered to me. I open and directly look for the usual suspect. On page 71 it says that static routes that refer to an exit interface have a default AD of 0 rather than 1. This is awfully wrong. No routing protocol (neither static nor dynamic) can beat down Connected routes. If you do not know this, you know very little about routing. Only Connected can have an AD of 0. (period) This confusion comes from the output of the "show ip route" command for static routes that refer to an outgoing interface (says "directly connected" or something). This has nothing to do with the AD. Do a "show ip route Other than this, this guide seems very covenient for review before the exam or a quick reference at any time. Sure it does not fully deserve the zero I give to it. Hope you understand the purpose of the zero. It has to do with the AD of 0 after all :-) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-18 16:35:10 EST)

If you are taking the Cisco Academy classes, you will wonder why this book is not a required text. I sure did. One of the other students in the class bought one in and, after taking a look at it, I ordered myself a copy the next week. The book very clearly lays out, with examples, the commands needed to configure Cisco routers and switches. The text does not give you detailed background as to what all the commands mean and the various options for each command, so you will still need to "know your stuff" in order to get the desired results. However, if you are like me and spend time trying to remember the right words to type in on the less common configurations, this is a great tool to quickly get you to the "Oh, yeah! Now I remember."

CCNA Portable Command Guide (2nd Edition) (Self-Study Guide)
I am new to Cisco devices and have a a fair amount of them in my new job. This book is great since it balances small size with great information. If you want to do something you just look at the table of contents and pick router, switch, etc. Then you go to that section and it tells you how to perform commands on the device and what ones you need to use. Perfect for the new person or the experienced one that needs help remembering all the commands and there are a lot. I would recommend this book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-17 04:41:29 EST)

I'm currently preparing for my CCNA and this book is really good to review everything from simple configuration to complex ones.
The "Tips" in each chapter are really well done. Ofcourse this cannot be your only source for preparing for the CCNA but its worth every penny and makes a great addition to your Cisco book collection. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-09 06:06:25 EST)

Great book to have. Small so it fits in my lap top carrier. Cisco has so many commands and when you don't use all of them everyday, sometimes it's hard to remember. Also if you are a CCNA student, this is great for CCNA-2 when you start working in the lab. You can find any command in this book that you need.

This book has been invaluable to me as a reference. I'm a full time head admin for a medium sized company and day to day this is great for some of those commands that you just can't remember off the top of your head.
The book is laid out in a clear and concise manner covering 90+% of what you will use on a day to day basis as a network admin. It's small and even has a couple of pages at the end of the book set aside for you to add personal notes. It is NOT the book to purchase if you want to know why something works, there is no theory or explanation, only the commands needs to get something up and running. This book is great and I would highly recommend any network admin to carry it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-31 06:21:28 EST)

I would have loved this book while I was still studying for my CCNA. I grabbed this, because I thought it would be like a command dictionary. It's more of a step-by-step for beginners. I would Cisco made a CCNP portable command guide.

This is one of the better study aids, but as with all study aids it is boring to read. It may just be me, but I hate to read anything like this, but I have to keep my certs. It is up to date with the latest verion of the test and very informative. It will make a great companion to use along side the bigger complete CCNA test prep books and also to use in the field when you need to remember those odd commands.

This is a good resource to study with for the CCNA. It contains almost all of the commands that should be known for the test, and then some. All I can say is watch out for $9.00 shipping charges if you buy used! Don't "one click shop" it as you will agree to these shipping charges without seeing them like I did.
