The Naked Pilot: The Human Factor in Aircraft Accidents

Investigations into the causes of aircraft accidents have for decades focused on what happened and who did it - very rarely 'Why'? It is the question 'Why' that David Beaty has addressed here, fighting the misnomer of 'pilot error' and propounding that the cause should be sought deeper inside human beings who make apparently simple human errors.

The book has its interesting parts.

Though be aware of the anti male sentiment that revolves through out the piece, it appears that the author was a co-pilot at one time and carries a rather large chip about the past.

I am a 36 year actively flying Commercial pilot and do not see the (specifically male issues) that this portrays to be true.

Other than that it is a relatively good read.

Though there are many many other books written without the bitterness that truly give the facts.

I had read many accidents from books, via internet for my search about human factors.Fortunately,i had bought "The Naked Pilot". This book let me see my own mistakes in front of my mental mirror, as a fixed and rotary wing pilot. Although, the front cover depicts an A300 cockpit, i really think that all pilots(including lighter than air, glider pilots) should read the book. You probably do not have as many systems as B-747-400 or Tristar, but you are still human and fallible.I like to echo the title of my review again: Thank You Mr.David Beaty for conducting your knowledge and experience to us.

If you don't know anything about Human Factors in Aviation this is the book to go for! It gave me a good foundation and understanding about the various Human Factors in the Flying world.
