Aren't teenagers stressed enough? What with dating, hormones, and impending adulthood, it's a miracle they survive high school, and still we give them colossal challenges such as the ACT. Kaplan recognizes that stress reduction is just as important as knowledge and problem solving when taking standardized tests, and this guidebook is an impressive mix of clear, demystifying information about the test and relaxation tips that would also be valuable for politicians, business executives, or anyone who's ever had a bad day.
Outstanding features include a set of instructions and time lines for using the book (including the "Classic" two-month plan and the "Panic" two-week plan), a complete timed test, and the "Kaplan Advantage Stress Management System." The individual "Skill-Building Workout" sections for English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning are all easily digestible and contain many practical tips for improving scores (guessing is OK, but some guesses are better than others). The writing is snappy and fun, making this test prep an enjoyable read, if such a thing is possible. Best of all: since Kaplan's guarantees a higher score, it's hard to lose with this book. Whether you need help with the "lay" versus "lie" controversy or your own palpitating heart, Kaplan's guide has the answer. --Rob Lightner |

I am currently a junior in high school and took the ACT's without any prep work. I was dissapointed with my first score and purchased this book which has increased my score six points!
This book worked great for me, plus I still have a whole year left to take it again to improve my score even more! If you are an average student willing to spend time reading and studying I highly suggest this book. I have tried many books, and I prefer this style the most even over CD-Rom's ( I would hate staring at this screen for hours! ). (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-15 05:07:10 EST)
