A Poisoned Past. A Bitter Present.
Is Celia a Murderer . . . or a Victim? Detective Stan Sheperd lies comatose in the hospital, a victim of arsenic poisoning. The Newpointe police have a suspect: Celia Shepherd, Stans wife. Celia is no stranger to such charges. When her first husband died of poisoning, a technicality scuttled the case against her, and Celia got off scot-free. Now it looks like the same old story--only this time, the motive appears plain. An old flame has moved into town under circumstances bound to raise suspicion. And thats just for starters. More evidence is gathering that can put Celia away for good. But attorney Jill Clark thinks the pieces of the puzzle fit together a bit too neatly. Either her clients Christian faith is a sham, or shes the victim of a deadly frame up--and the real killer is still afoot. . . . Shadow of Doubt is book two in the Newpointe 911 suspense series by award-winning novelist Terri Blackstock. Newpointe 911 offers taut, superbly crafted novels of fear, faith, and close-knit, small-town relationships, seasoned with romance and tempered by insights into the nature of relationships, redemption, and the human heart. Look for book one, the best-selling Private Justice, and the upcoming False Witness at your favorite Christian bookstore. |

Ms. Blackstock's works--her plots, woven with mystery and faith, her interesting characters, et al--are always first rate. "Shadow of a Doubt," "Word of Honor," and "Trial by Fire" are no exceptions. These books, along with "Private Justice" and "Line of Duty," comprise her five-volume 'NEWPOINT 911' series... a series which will entertain and inspire readers. Highly recommended! --RON HOWE (a.k.a. Toby Martin II)

Well, Terri Blackstock has done it again. She definitely had alot to live up to due to her amazing series beginner. I was anxious to read this book because the first had the relationship between the two subcharacters, Jill and Dan. I had also seen anlot of Stan Shepard from the first. Ceila's character made me wonder some, but she won me over by her sweet compasion and her quirky aunt. This is definitley a good book and should be read by any suspense~romance avid readers.

The story begins in Celia and Stan Shepherd's house on Mill Street in a small city named Newpointe. The day had gone along just as every other day except for the fact that during the night Stan had a horrible stomach ache and was terribly dizzy.
The doctor's do lab work on Stan's blood and they see that he has been poisoned by arsenic. Celia is traumatized and becomes very quiet. When questioned it comes to the front that her previous husband was poisoned the same way and he died. However, she had been the one who had been tried and came very close to being convicted. Fortunately the charges were dropped when one of the lawyers went a little too far and started to sound biased. Throughout this whole story Celia is trying to put her life back together and she is trying to keep her world from falling down. Her friends and even some of her closest family members turn their backs on her. It seems to her as if someone is trying to sabotage her and trying to make her look very much like the killer. The police officers are convinced that she is the murderer and so are many readers. Throughout the whole story different things are happening and it seems as if every minute something new is happening. As different people are introduced into the story it seems as if the suspects change so you never really know who did it. The ending is extremely surprising and many other readers agree with me. After reading the 1st book in the series and knowing "whodunit" throughout most of the book, I thought I would give this series another shot. About 50 pages into the book I knew who the criminal was. I never finished this series. However, I have enjoyed other books by Terri Blackstock.

This is the second in '911 Newpointe' series and also the second book I have read by Terri Blackstock. I was a fan after reading the first book in the series but this just confirmed it. I love the suspense and intrigue she puts into her stories. All the ingredients that make up a good suspense/mystery novel are here. The story also shows the importance of friends and of their trust in you. In addition, it portrays the faithfulness and total reliability of God when people can be cold and accusing. A brilliant book.
